Snapshot

There’s an old Welsh saying; “the best shortage is a shortage of words”. And we can understand why. Because when you travel through Snowdonia, the beautiful mountains leave you speechless. The Welsh castles’ battle-torn passageways are simply indescribable. And a lot of the destinations are as unpronounceable as they’re unbelievable. So, on this trip, we let you discover the elusive beauty of Wales. You enjoy the poetic landscapes and harbour towns that inspired Dylan Thomas, you venture through the inexpressibly beautiful valleys of two of Wales’ famous national parks, and you take in the history of Chester, an English town that sits by the border. Let the sights speak for themselves and join our tour of North Wales and Chester. Conwy Castle - Set near an impressive pair of bridges, this brilliantly preserved 13th-century fortress is a visual treat. Llanberis Slate Mine - This museum stands as testament to the people who worked in the mines of Elidir mountain. Aberystwyth - A seaside town with fine examples of Victorian architecture. Snowdonia National Park - Discover the jagged peaks of Wales’ premier national park. New Quay and Cardigan Bay - White houses speckled on a hill overlooking a gorgeous beach. Laugharne and its Dylan Thomas connections - Explore the town that inspired one of the world’s greatest poets. Harlech Castle - UNESCO described this castle as one of "the finest examples of late 13th-century military architecture in Europe". Chester - This ancient border city is a fascinating collection of Roman, Medieval, Tudor and modern city planning.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival
You leave Manchester and head straight for the border of Wales. Your first stop of the day is Conwy. This little towns deserves to win awards for most picture-perfect harbour town. There’s a castle perched by the sea, the ‘world’s smallest house’, and lots of little restaurants boasting the best fish and chips. After you’ve soaked up the sea air, you travel to the Llanberis Slate Museum. It’s a little less cute here, but the history of the second largest slate mine on the planet will stay in your memory for a long time. Beddgelert in Snowdonia is your next stop. This place is known as the most ‘lovely’ village in Snowdonia. And you must agree, the stone houses and arched bridge are simply beautiful. You travel through the heart of Snowdonia as the light softens and arrive at your overnight stop in Aberystwyth on Bed and Breakfast basis.
Day 2
Aberystwyth
In the morning, you leave your abode in Aberystwyth and journey to the colourful seaside town of New Quay. It may be a little too early for ice cream, but you can still enjoy a stroll along the beautiful beach. You travel to Laugharne, this may have been the inspiration for Dylan Thomas’ famous ‘Under Milk Wood’. You may not have even heard of this, but it doesn’t matter, because you’ll be more than impressed by this village’s towering castle. And now, it’s time for an even more impressive castle. You go to Carreg Cennen, an imposing fortress perched on top of a hill within the Brecon Beacons National Park. After roaming these ramparts, it’s time for something a little more luxurious. You travel to Newton House, a palatial building that boasts rich gardens, unique architecture, and famous ghost stories. You arrive back in Aberystwyth on Bed and Breakfast basis
Day 3
Departure
Your first task of the day is to watch Snowdonia’s mountains fly by as you head to Harlech Castle. This is one of our favourite castles in the whole of the UK. You can enjoy epic sea views and an amazingly war-torn history that involves a lot of dynamite. You stop for lunch in the little village of Betws-Y-Coed before heading to one of England’s most historic towns, Chester. There’s a lot to do here, but we’d advise you just head to the Cathedral, you could spend a whole week here and not get bored. You arrive back in Manchester in the early evening.
