Get to know Costa Rica during this 11-day deluxe tour around the country. Itinerary

Day 1
ARRIVAL LIBERIA – RINCON DE LA VIEJA (35km – 1 hr)
Your Costa Rican adventure begins on arrival to Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, in the country’s northwestern area. Here, a Destination Services representative awaits to greet you before you depart on a shared transfer to Rincon de la Vieja for your first night in Costa Rica. Recommended arrival time before 15:00 hrs. Overnight in Rincon de la Vieja hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Day 2
RINCON DE LA VIEJA – ARENAL (150km – 3.5 hrs)
Breakfast at the hotel is followed by pick-up in a shared transfer from Rincon de la Vieja to Arenal. Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica and this area is a paradise for adventure lovers. On arrival to the hotel, enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure to explore the surroundings on your own or join an optional activity. Overnight in Arenal hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Day 3
ARENAL
Today after breakfast, take a guided walking tour in Arenal Volcano National Park. During the tour, the guide will explain the periods of activity the once very active volcano experienced. During the hike, enjoy the verdant landscapes and the backdrop of the now-dormant volcano as you keep a lookout for animals that live in this national park, such as sloths, howler monkeys and even anteaters, to name a few. After, return to the hotel with the afternoon at leisure to participate in optional activities or simply relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. Overnight in Arenal hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis
Day 4
ARENAL – SARAPIQUI (130km – 2.5 hrs)
Breakfast at the hotel is followed by check-out and a trip to the Sarapiqui area in a shared transfer. Hidden in the foothills of the impressive Braulio Carrillo National Park, its setting alongside mountain streams and exuberant rainforest and pasturelands is truly a sight for sore eyes. Encounter the mysteries of the rainforest while enjoying a comfortable stay in the beautifully designed rooms of the lodge. Enjoy the natural surrounds and perhaps participate in one of the optional activities available. Overnight in Sarapiqui hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis
Day 5
SARAPIQUI – TORTUGUERO (85km – 3 hrs by road / 2 hrs by boat)
In the morning, take a shared transfer from Sarapiquí to the neighbouring Guapiles area, where you switch buses to take a second shared transfer to your hotel in Tortuguero. Breakfast on route. After, continue through the jungle by boat and cruise the rivers and canals of Tortuguero National Park. Arrive and check in at your eco-lodge, followed by lunch at the lodge. Board the boat again for a visit to Tortuguero village, where you will get to walk around town and experience the locals’ way of life and stroll along the beach. During turtle hatching season, we will look for the baby turtles trying to find their way down to the ocean. Nesting is from July to September, hatching from September to December. Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel, surrounded by the beautiful tropical forest and wildlife. Overnight in Tortuguero hotel on a full-board basis
Day 6
TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK
Today you will have some free time to relax by the pool and also experience Tortuguero National Park on a three-hour trip, where you have the chance to observe over 350 protected species of birds, monkeys, crocodiles and sloths and its lush vegetation (park entrance fee not included). During the July to September season, you can join an optional late night turtle nesting tour, purchasable directly at the lodge. Overnight in Tortuguero hotel on a full-board basis
Day 7
TORTUGUERO – SAN JOSE (135km – 4 hrs by road / 2 hrs by boat)
After breakfast, we depart Tortuguero on shared transfer by boat then land to the capital city of San Jose. Upon arrival to San Jose, check in to your hotel, then have the rest of day at leisure to explore this fascinating city on your own. Overnight in San Jose hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis
Day 8
SAN JOSE – LA PAZ WATERFALL – VARA BLANCA (55km – 1.5 hrs)
After breakfast at the hotel, travel to the area of Vara Blanca to visit to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a privately owned ecological attraction featuring five waterfalls, cloud and rain forest, and with great hiking trails. Visit the various exhibits of the gardens, including the butterfly observatory, insect exhibit, and over 100 species of animals, along with an environmental education programme. Overnight in Vara Blanca hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Day 9
VARA BLANCA – HERRADURA BEACH (120km – 2.5 hrs)
Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel before you are picked up in a shared transfer from Vara Blanca area to the Central Pacific coast. Creating an inspiring landscape, the sandy beaches and protected wildlife are two primary draws to this beautiful area. And with its combination of ocean views and lush tropical vegetation, the Central Pacific has scenery unlike any other. Overnight in Jaco area on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Day 10
HERRADURA BEACH
Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure to enjoy the hotel, optional activities or explore the area on your own. Overnight in Jaco area hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
Day 11
HERRADURA BEACH – DEPART LIBERIA (200km – 3.5 hrs)
At the appropriate time, departure transfer to Liberia International Airport or hotel extension at the beach. Recommended flight after 15:00 hrs. Breakfast included.
